Victorian awnings for Peter Harrington Fulham Road

Of special interest on these two  Victorian awnings installed at Peter Harrington Books on the Fulham Road, is the way the valances have been fixed to the front  laths. Instead o f the more modern method of sliding the valances into a track, which allows for easy removal, these valances have been fixed with traditional galvanised clout nails. A difficult job to achieve under any circumstances but the considerable length of these Victorian awnings made the job especially challenging. The branding to the front valances has been applied in Times text using our unique RAGS® application process.

Peter Harrington were established in 1979 selling rare books and first editions from the Chelsea Antiques Market on London’s King’s Road. In 1997 they moved to much larger premises on the Fulham Road but still in Chelsea. At Peter Harrington  customer service includes, not only sales advice but commission bidding at auctions, library projects and others. They  regularly produce fully-illustrated catalogues featuring their newest acquisitions.

Fulham Road is located  adjacent  to The King's Road, and is the westerly continuation of Brompton Road which runs all the way up to Fulham Palace. There are many antique dealers and specialist interior furnishing retailers along the whole length of the road. Recently , designer couture outlets have been arriving on the Fulham Road. One end, nearest the cinema, is known as The Beach, and is the location of many fashionable bars, pubs and clubs.
