Awning Timber for Patio Awnings in London

World's Finest Timber Awning Components

6 Sep 2022

Natural wood continues to feature highly in the manufacture of many of our most popular awnings and, despite the advent of new materials, there is no substitute for the use of natural materials in our traditional awnings.

Whilst the aluminium of modern awning systems can be cut, riveted and screwed together by methods requiring little or no skills, beyond being to handle machinery safely. The use of natural wood, with its inherent differences in hardness, grain and torsional stability, means that it can only be worked by skilled crafts people who have an understanding and empathy with the material.

Of particular note is the design of our traditional hard wood awning boxes which all have a sloped top surface to ensure water run-off and a drip rail to prevent water ingress into the awning box where damage might be caused to the fabric cover.

Where required, our facilities and skill permits us to create more interesting slants on the basic awning box design including the creation of specially form front profiles or laths and art deco or Victorian end cheeks.
